A broken tooth is a cracked tooth. The crack can be on the biting surface, in the outer enamel, or you may have a fully split tooth. It is also possible that the tooth could be cracked in several places. The cracks could cause the tooth to be in several pieces. In fact, if large pieces have cracked and are separated from the rest of the tooth, you may need to have the tooth extracted.
Seek Professional Dental Help for Cracked Teeth
If you have a cracked tooth, you have two options. You can leave it alone and hope for the best, or you can have our staff assess the tooth to see if you need further action. It is a good idea to come into our office so we can assess the extent of the damage. For instance, if the crack is only on the surface, we may advise you to leave it alone. If the cracked tooth has extensive damage, we may advise you to let us remove the tooth so you are not in danger of infection in that tooth as well as in the rest of your body.
